August 2008: Cowater Begins New Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Malawi

The African Development Bank has selected Cowater International to implement a new initiative in Malawi which will consist of a baseline assessment, design, business planning and construction supervision for water supply and sanitation in several market centres and their surrounding communities in the southern part of the country. The development objective of the project is to improve household welfare and strengthen economic growth in selected market centres and surrounding rural areas through the provision of core infrastructure services. The project, with USD 677,000 in funding from AfDB, is scheduled to begin in 2008 and run until 2010.

This new assignment in Malawi follows Cowater’s completion of the very successful CIDA-funded Community Water, Sanitation and Health (COMWASH) project in late 2007.
