April 2012: Cowater to Continue ADB-funded Work on Municipal Strengthening in Nepal

Following shortly after Cowater’s completion of the very successful 19-month “Institutional Strengthening of Municipalities” project in Nepal, the Asian Development Bank has awarded Cowater and its partners the contract for the two-year follow-on project, “Strengthening Municipalities for Urban Service Delivery”. The purpose of the project is to strengthen the financial management and urban planning capabilities of four focus municipalities in Nepal’s Terai region, thereby improving both service delivery and the sustainability of future infrastructure investments in the cities of Dharan, Janakpur, Nepalgunj, and Siddharthanagar. The technical assistance will consist of three main components: improving financial management systems, including own-source revenue enhancement; strengthening urban planning through building bylaw and code development and enforcement; and strengthening GIS-based mapping systems and capabilities.
