The Water, Sanitation and Environment Group has developed a reputation for professional excellence and being on the cutting edge, with innovative ideas and creative concepts that are successfully incorporated into projects around the world. Examples of projects undertaken include a large rural water supply project in Ghana introducing community management, a reformulated government role, and appropriate low-cost technology; a sector-wide review and development plan in Nepal; a project to strengthen Public Health Engineering Departments in Pakistan; and a capacity-building project in Bangladesh for water and sanitation service management.
Main areas of expertise are:
- participatory planning design, management, monitoring and evaluation of rural and small urban/municipal water supply and sanitation projects;
- sector policies and strategic investment plans;
- community management strategies and mechanisms for sustainable facility operation and maintenance - administrative, technical and financial;
- integrated water, sanitation, and health/hygiene education, from a gender-balanced perspective; and
- facility operation and maintenance analysis and improvement, rehabilitation planning, and system sustainability.
