December 2012: World Bank Contract in Ghana Peri-Urban Water Sector Won by Cowater

Cowater has been awarded a contract related to Component 1 of a new, multi-component World Bank water sector initiative in Accra, Ghana, the main objective of which is to increase access to improved sanitation and safe water with particular emphasis on people living in low-income communities within the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA). Cowater’s 6-person team will conduct an assessment of water and environmental sanitation needs in selected low-income urban communities within GAMA, and prepare guidelines for community participation in WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) provision. The assessment will involve extensive community participation, and will include discussions with each community in order to identify solutions both affordable and appropriate to their needs.

This project builds on Cowater’s 25 years of project management and implementation experience in Ghana.
