Campaign “I See, I Want, I Will” – Ethnic Minority Students Speak Up for Gender Equality and Clean Growth in Northern Vietnam

December 3, 2025

In November, eight upper secondary schools across Lào Cai province joined the communication campaign “Em thấy, em muốn, em sẽ” (I See, I Want, I Will), an inspiring initiative that supports students—especially ethnic minority girls—to share their stories, express their aspirations, and commit to advancing gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and climate-smart agricultural practices.

The campaign delivered a series of dynamic activities both inside and outside the classroom, including:

  • Building capacity for teachers and education managers to integrate content that promotes gender equality and empowers ethnic minority women participating in climate-smart agriculture into lessons, lectures, and extracurricular activities.
  • Raising awareness among students about environmental protection and encouraging support for climate-adaptive and resilient agricultural practices.
  • Organizing a challenge across eight schools that empowered students to share their visions for the future and how they intend to drive positive change in their families and communities, promoting climate-resilient and gender-inclusive agriculture.

Campaign Results

The “I See, I Want, I Will” campaign generated strong engagement and meaningful dialogue among students and educators:

  • 67 creative videos portraying personal journeys of “seeing – wanting – acting”
  • 124 classroom sessions involving 6,776 students, 47% of whom were ethnic minority girls
  • 128 students participated in the challenge, producing creative presentations on their aspirations for climate-resilient and gender-inclusive communities

A standout moment came from a Tày ethnic minority student whose video, “Bình Đẳng Tạo Nên Màu Xanh” (Equality for a Greener Future), was recognized for its message. She shared:

“I see climate change and the importance of gender equality. I want to work side by side with men in all kinds of work. I will join my community in practicing clean agriculture, protecting the environment, and building a sustainable future for my village.”

About SPRINT

The project “SMEs Promote Resilience, Inclusion, and Innovative Transformation” (SPRINT) is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and implemented by Cowater International in partnership with Lào Cai provincial partners. The project runs from May 2023 to June 2029.

SPRINT works with ethnic minority communities (particularly ethnic minority women) in the agri-business sector of Lào Cai province. The initiative promotes inclusion and opportunity through improved access to productive resources; resilient and clean growth solutions in production and agri-food businesses; leadership development; and strengthened capacity among public, private, and community actors. SPRINT aims to advance ethnic minority women’s socio-economic empowerment in the agriculture sector, address critical skills and knowledge gaps, and encourage innovation and the adoption of climate-resilient crop production and clean growth solutions, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate-smart agriculture.
