Cowater International acquires AECOM UK International Development Division News

17 September, 2019

Cowater International is pleased to announce that it has acquired AECOM’s UK International Development Division. Through this acquisition, Cowater will extract and integrate AECOM UK International Development Ltd.’s activities into its global platform which will significantly bolster the company’s presence in the UK market and enhance its expertise in energy, water, trade, cities and infrastructure.

“This is an exciting time for Cowater! This acquisition allows us to deepen our engagement and commitment to the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).  Our expertise and values are closely aligned with those of the United Kingdom’s international development program and a closer relationship with the UK was inevitable,” noted David Baron, President and CEO of Cowater International.

“We are proud to make this announcement today. The integration of AECOM UK’s International Development practice with the already robust Cowater team strengthens our capability in key service areas while expanding our footprint and leadership in London.” added Mr. Baron. “This acquisition will supplement a growing DFID portfolio and enhance our ability to confidently deliver high quality technical expertise to DFID and the FCO.”

Cowater has been working with the UK Department for International Development since 2005, first on a project in South Africa and then in Sierra Leone. More recently, the company has been implementing a Customs reform project in Somalia and DFID’s largest revenue reform project in Ethiopia.

Additionally, the company is leading five of DFID’s International Multi-disciplinary Programme Framework Agreements and is a key supplier for the General Economic Development Framework Agreement. Cowater will now have an office in London (Cowater UK Ltd.) from where it will oversee its operations on DFID projects and liaise with its UK-based consortium partners and clients.

This acquisition and new London office will build on other recent investments including the opening of a new corporate office in Nairobi, Kenya, to support Cowater’s DFID projects in the region.
