GREAT Knowledge Series (Issue 1): Empowering Women through an Inclusive Systems Approach Insights

23 December, 2020

Implemented by Cowater International, and funded by DFAT Australia, Gender-Responsive Equitable Agriculture and Tourism (GREAT) Program is a flagship women’s economic empowerment initiative that aims to improve the socio-economic status of women, with a specific focus on ethnic minority women living in the Northwestern Vietnamese provinces of Son La and Lao Cai. Progress towards the Program’s objectives is achieved by increasing the participation in, and income derived from, agricultural production and tourism by empowering women to take on leadership and decision-making roles; engaging women as producers, suppliers, traders, and entrepreneurs; ensuring operations are gender-sensitive; and improving sector governance and policies, enabling more inclusive development. ‘Empowering Women through an Inclusive Systems Approach’, is the first publication in GREAT’s Knowledge Series and introduces key approaches of GREAT and the context in which the Program operates. The Knowledge Series will assess specific issues and share emerging lessons as the Program continually builds an understanding of gender issues, women’s economic empowerment and the opportunities and challenges that emerge when working on inclusive systems development in Vietnam.
