Over 300 Lifestyle Audit Investigators in South Africa benefit from specialized training News

21 May, 2024

The Strengthening Ethics and Integrity Project (SEIP), funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Cowater International, conducted two full-day hybrid training sessions. The first session focused on the results of the Lifestyle Audit Investigator survey completed in 2023, and the second one on general fraud. The sessions were hosted in collaboration with the Public Administration, Ethics Integrity and Disciplinary Technical Assistance Unit (PAEIDTAU), which is part of the South African Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA). On day one, representatives from national departments were targeted. On day two the focus was on representatives from provincial departments.

Over 300 Lifestyle Audit investigators attended the training sessions, with 175 participants from provincial governments and the rest representing national departments.

Each session consisted of two presentations.  First, a presentation on the results of the 2023 Lifestyle Audit Investigator survey, which highlighted key findings: 8 of the 14 recommendations from the survey report, and the actions PAEIDTAU is taking to address them.  In addition, the survey allowed the collection of the first-ever gender-disaggregated data. The second presentation was a General Fraud Training, that introduced global statistics of fraud, fraud concepts, and tools that can be used in relation to fraud.

The DPSA’s PAEIDTAU now aims to further enhance the knowledge, procedures and tools available to Lifestyle Audit Investigators, raise awareness on gender and inclusion and strengthen the overall anti-corruption culture in various departments.

SEIP is funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Cowater International. It aims to increase the accountability, efficiency and transparency of the South Africa public administration in delivering gender-responsive services to the public.
