The “Poverty Reduction Programs for Minority Communities in Latin America” project was a three-year, CAD 402,000 initiative undertaken with the financial support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). The initiative assessed the needs of Black minority communities in nine Central and South American countries. Additionally, the project contributed to developing participatory development models and training programs for community and grassroots organizations. The project identified and designed programs to support these communities in meeting their own socio-economic development objectives; as well as facilitated fora which brought together members of the Latin American Black communities to discuss common areas of concern and specific issues relevant to their communities, and members of the black communities with international donors to discuss the communities’ priorities and areas where international assistance was needed.
