Sub-Saharan Africa - Benin
This seven-year, CAD 13.6 million project (2015-2022) is currently being implemented by Cowater to strengthen the revenue mobilization capacity of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) of Benin. The ultimate objective of the project is to improve the economic situation of Benin, including improvement of the economic situation of the disadvantaged, young people and women, through more appropriate taxation and more substantial government programs. To achieve this final outcome, five immediate results have been targeted; 1) Increase the competence of the Directorate in identifying the potential fiscal and economic, social, equality between women and men, and environmental issues related to taxation; 2) Increase the capacity of the Tax Directorate through enhanced information management systems; 3) Increase the competence and effectiveness of branch staff in all its functions; 4) Structure working methods of the Directorate more efficiently and making them sensitive to tax issues of equality between women and men; 5) Better inform tax agents about their responsibilities to taxpayers, by an implementing a customer service approach, adopted by DGI, in addition to the development and the implementation of a public awareness strategy.
