Sub-Saharan Africa - South Sudan
The Services in Support to Reconciliation Activities for South Sudan project, implemented by Cowater International (formerly Transtec), contributed to stabilisation and confidence-building in areas of South Sudan that were directly affected by the conflict that erupted in December 2013 and to foster conflict prevention. This project deepened the understanding of reconciliation and facilitated exchanges between stakeholders to support the formation of a national dialogue and reconciliation process. Cowater International conducted research on transitional justice in South Sudan and on the establishment and functioning of the transitional justice institutions foreseen by the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan. The project organised the workshop ‘Mechanisms of Transitional Justice’ to assist the Judiciary of South Sudan in implementing national criminal justice in the country and supported the work of the technical committee for the formation of the Commission for Truth Reconciliation and Healing (CTRH) in the preparation of consultations.
