Strengthening of Internal Audit Function in Royal Government of Bhutan

In 2014, Cowater completed this one year, USD 150,000 project that provided technical assistance and capacity development to the Central Coordinating Agency of the Royal Government of Bhutan. Specifically, the project helped develop a fully functioning internal audit unit which included an Institutional Strengthening Strategy to help align the current internal audit manual with accordance to international standards and best practices in public sector audit and the Bhutanese context. This included enhancing the Impact of Internal Audit to improve the quality of internal audit report writing and ensuring that the reports were adequately disseminated by stakeholders leading to the implementation of audit recommendations. Cowater trained 20 Internal Auditors to help them successfully complete the Certified Internal Audit/ Certified Government Auditing Professional examinations.
