Sub-Saharan Africa - Ethiopia

2003-2003 | Relief Society of Tigray/USAID | USD 140 000

Cowater completed a four-month Study on Water Harvesting Techniques and Their Application in the Region State of Tigray, Ethiopia for the Relief Society of Tigray. This study of water harvesting techniques was for irrigation projects that will improve livelihoods and food security in the region through sustainable agriculture. Water harvesting techniques have the potential to make more effective use of the limited water resources available, offering a more reliable source of water for subsistence crops, income generating crops and diversified forms of agriculture. A review of experiences gained in different countries and a study of schemes in Tigray Region and other parts of Ethiopia were carried out. Site visits were made within Tigray and surrounding areas. Extensive research was undertaken involving desk studies and discussions with research organizations and other project representatives.
