Support to the Syrian Civil Society Centre Baytna

Middle East and North Africa - Syria, Turkey

2014-2016 | DANIDA | USD 2.3M

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark supported the establishment of Baytna Syria as a networking, training, and grant-making facility for Syrian civil society. The centre offered Syrian civil society and community-based organisations mentoring and a curriculum of training courses in subjects such as proposal writing, concept development, finance and strategic planning. The centre has become a hub and central focal point for Syrian civil society and actors, who are calling for transition to a society based on the rule of law, human rights, democratic principles and pluralism. The objective of the project implemented by Cowater International (formerly Transtec) was to support Baytna and oversee the further development of the civil society centre as a reputable, self-sufficient and independent Syrian-led organisation, which supports and empowers smaller Syrian CSOs to work and implement projects inside Syria.
