The Women Entrepreneurship Development Project (WEDP) – Consulting Services for Curriculum and Module Development & TOT Training

Sub-Saharan Africa - Ethiopia

2014-2016 | World Bank | USD 1.36 M

The objective of WEDP was to increase the earnings and employment of Micro and Small Enterprise’s owned or partly owned by female entrepreneurs in a number of targeted cities of Ethiopia. It was designed to focus on two dimensions that generally impacted on the success of women to successfully engage in entrepreneurial activities – access to finance and lack of skills. The project implemented by Cowater International (formerly Transtec) addressed the skills component, with the objective of designing a training program in entrepreneurship and building the capacity of local institutions to deliver trainings and other associated services to the beneficiaries. The training component aimed to give all TVET teachers and trainers a basic insight into entrepreneurship and business skills to better enable them to promote job creation and self-employment and provided training to a selected group of TVET teachers to become Business Skills Development specialists who would then be able to advise, coach and build the entrepreneurial competencies of women entrepreneurs.
