Strengthening Ethics and Integrity in South Africa Project: A Canadian-South African collaborative approach to addressing corruption
The Strengthening Ethics and Integrity Project (SEIP), is a seven-year initiative (2018-25) funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), which aims to increase the accountability, efficiency and transparency of South African public administration in its efforts to address corruption and deliver gender-responsive services to the South African public. SEIP supports the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), and more specifically the Public Administration Ethics, Integrity, and Disciplinary Technical Assistance Unit (PAEIDTAU) and the Transformation and Employee Health and Wellness Unit (TEWU).
Every year, South Africa’s DPSA celebrates Public Service Month (PSM), during the month of September. PSM is an opportunity to highlight the important role of government in service delivery. An integral part of PSM is Ethics Week, which celebrates the principles of honesty, fairness, transparency and citizen-centric public service delivery. During the launch of the 2024 Ethics Week, which coincided with the launch of the mission for the SEIP project, the project team had an opportunity to meet with Minister Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi from the Department of Public Service and Administration.
The mission featured a wide range of workshops and trainings. Over 250 investigators attended discipline management trainings, while more than 950 participants engaged in online sessions on Professional Standards and Standard Practices for Lifestyle Investigation. Additionally, workshops were conducted in line with the Policy on Preventing and Eliminating Harassment in the Public Service, and presentations were made during the Ethics Officer Forum on the Ethics Committee project.
