Study Launch: Gender Mainstreaming in Free Trade Agreements News

Please join us for the online launch of the technical study Gender Mainstreaming in Free Trade Agreements: A Regional Analysis and Good Practice Examples, authored by Dr. Amrita Bahri, and developed with the support of the Trade and Investment Advocacy Fund (TAF2+), funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by Cowater International.

The study examines gender-specific challenges in the area of trade and puts forward a series of recommendations for policy-makers and trade professionals on how to advance gender-related issues in free trade agreements.

The online launch event will take place on Thursday, January 27th, 3-4:30 PM GMT (10-11:30AM EST)

Special guests include Angela Paolini ELLARD, Deputy Director-General, World Trade Organization (WTO), Anoush DER BOGHOSSIAN, Head of the Trade and Gender Unit, WTO, Simonetta ZARRILLI, Chief of the Trade, Gender and Development Programme, UNCTAD and Katrin KUHLMANN Associate Professor of Law, Georgetown University.

The Trade and Investment Advocacy Fund (TAF2+) provides on-demand technical assistance to developing countries to participate in trade and investment negotiations. TAF2+ is funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and managed by Cowater UK. TAF2+ takes a targeted approach to supporting international trade and has different windows of support for selected developing countries and FCDO Country Offices. As part of its Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Strategy, TAF2+ implements a range of GESI-focused activities which aim to increase the technical skills of policymakers in developing countries in the gender and social aspects of trade negotiations and agreements, build a network of GESI champions, and fill practical knowledge gaps at the international level.
