Infrastructure Services Project (ISP)

Sub-Saharan Africa

2008-2009
World Bank
USD 525 000

The Government of Malawi received a grant and soft loan from the World Bank for the Infrastructure Services Project which was intended to improve infrastructure in market centres and surrounding areas within selected corridors. The project was implemented in response to inadequate delivery of infrastructure services due to fiscal difficulties, aging infrastructure, and institutional constraints. The Project therefore improved infrastructure for water supply and sanitation; electricity; telecommunication; and roads. Capacity of the sector agencies concerned was built to enable them to implement sub-projects and undertake operation and maintenance of the constructed systems. Cowater managed the water supply component for design and construction supervision of water supply systems in selected market systems in the southern region of Malawi.
