FEMA (Femmes et Enfants des Communautés Miniéres Artisanales au Mali) is a project aimed at improving the conditions of women and children in artisanal and small-scale gold mining communities in the cercle of Kéniéba, Mali. Starting in April 2022 and running for 5 years, the project targets women and children, and also aims to improve the overall governance of the sector. In this sense, FEMA project activities address the negative effects of artisanal mining by improving the living conditions of women and children, increasing women’s precarious livelihoods, child labor and the general informality of the gold panning sector.
