Cowater awarded contract to support Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company and Lusaka City Council
Cowater and its partner RODECO have been selected to provide technical assistance to the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) and Lusaka City Council (LCC) for social inclusion and gender mainstreaming, and information, education and communication (IEC). This project will support results to be achieved under the MCA-Zambia Lusaka Water Supply, Sanitation and Drainage (LWSSD) Project which aims to improve access and reliability of water supply and sanitation and drainage services in select urban and peri-urban areas of the city of Lusaka, benefiting 1.2 million residents.
Key objectives of the technical assistance assignment are to:
- Strengthen and institutionalize LWSC’s capacity to develop and implement gender responsive policies and systems that will enhance the utility’s ability to provide appropriate, affordable and sustainable services to the poor;
- Strengthen and institutionalize LCC’s capacity to include poor women and men in approaches to address solid waste management; and,
- Strengthen and institutionalize LWSC’s and LCC’s capacity to identify IEC needs for water & sanitation, and solid waste management & drainage.
In addition to this new project in Zambia, Cowater is also implementing MCC-funded projects in Lesotho and Jordan.
