Cowater International at COP28
Cowater International is at COP28. Our Jordan Sustainable Energy and Economic Development Project (Jordan SEED Project) team is participating in three COP28 events to highlight the impact of innovative renewable energy and energy efficient solutions in promoting socio-economic development and supporting livelihoods. Cowater-led SPARC Programme is contributing to a series of discussions centered on strengthening climate action in crises-affected environments and building resilience in the Horn of Africa.
Join us at COP28 for the following events:
- Strengthening Climate Action in Countries Affected by Protracted Crises.
This event will convene high-level representatives from States including the Government of Somalia, as well development and humanitarian organizations, to discuss how we can scale up climate finance and action in countries affected by protracted crises. It is co-organized by the Government of Somalia, the Islamic Development Bank, ODI, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

- Launching Somalia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Implementation Plan: A Round Table Discussion.

- Uniting for action for sustainable development in Jordan
This side-event at COP28, hosted by Coop Up, will focus on the synergy between renewable energy and energy efficient solutions for sustainable development in Jordan and showcase projects and achievements in Jordan. The initiative aims to demonstrate strategies for using renewable energy solutions to advance socio-economic development, reduce poverty and boost incomes.

- Sustainable energy solutions in conflict areas to increase resilience for the most vulnerable
This COP28 event, organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the League of Arab States (LAS) will include expert speakers from countries experiencing conflict to discuss the benefits, challenges, and pathways forward for increasing the use of decentralized energy solutions to build resilience and revamp livelihoods for crisis-impacted and displaced populations.

- Multi-Sectoral Rural Development through Renewable Energy Access
This is an event organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The panel will share with the audience the success of a multistakeholder engagement and integrated business model using clean energy and how it can be used to foster sustainable transformational change and build resilience to climate change in rural areas in the Arab region. It will highlight how renewable energy was used as an enabler for tailor-made income-generating productive activities, complemented with capacity building programs, energy efficient productive equipment.

- Towards Climate-resilient Development in the Greater Horn of Africa.
This event, which coincides with the COP28 Relief, Recovery and Peace Day, will convene Ministers from the UK and elsewhere, and other senior representatives, to discuss how to advance the climate agenda in the Greater Horn of Africa. The discussion will be moderated by SPARC Risk and Resilience Advisor Rebecca Nadin. This event will include the launch of the SPARC co-funded report, ‘Building forward better: a pathway to climate-resilient development in fragile and conflict-affected situations’, which builds on SPARC’s research into what meaningful climate action looks like in areas affected by armed conflict, violence and fragility.
