GIZ entrusted to Cowater International the support to the African Union (AU) in operationalising the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA). This project aimed to increase the use – by the AU in cooperation with the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) – of instruments for crisis prevention, conflict management and peace consolidation while incorporating gender equality considerations. It strengthened structures and further developing APSA instruments at the level of the AU Commission, combined with accompanying the implementation of APSA pilot initiatives in selected AU member states, in collaboration with RECs, and supporting the implementation of the Continental Structural Conflict Prevention Framework (CSCPF) for conflict preventive diplomacy.
