ProNurse Project celebrates International Women’s Day 2024
This year’s International Women’s Day theme was “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”. To celebrate and raise awareness of the role of women in the nursing sector of Bangladesh, ProNurse Project hosted an event entitled “Empowering Nurses: Reflecting on Progress and Promoting Change”.
The event took place on March 11th, at the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery, Mohakhali, Dhaka and was organized jointly by DGNM and the Cowater International-led ProNurse Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada.
Ms. Maqsura Noor (NDC), Additional Secretary and Director General of DGNM, inaugurated the event. In her opening speech, she highlighted the importance of empowering women in nursing to achieve long-term, sustainable national development outcomes. Ms. Maqsura expressed hope that nurses would lead the way as torchbearers in building a stronger and more prosperous Bangladesh.
Md. Nasir Uddin, Deputy Secretary, Director of Administration, DGNM encouraged female nurses to be more active and vocal in realizing their rights as healthcare professionals and women leaders. Dr. Lubana Ahmed, Project Director, Cowater International and Dr. Selina Amin, Team Leader, ProNurse Project, emphasized the Project’s efforts in advancing the role of nurses in society and the significance of investing in the nursing workforce to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
Ms. Selina Ahmed, Gender Equality Specialist, ProNurse Project, led an open discussion on nurses’ empowerment. The event featured testimonials from distinguished nurses who shared inspiring stories showcasing their resilience, struggles, and triumphs. A total of 110 participants were present. In a show of unity, the event concluded with a vibrant cultural show presented by nurses.
