Gender-Responsive Equitable Agriculture and Tourism (GREAT)

South and South-East Asia - Vietnam

2017-2027 | Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade | AUD 67.4M

The “Gender-Responsive Equitable Agriculture and Tourism (GREAT)” project is promoting women’s economic empowerment in the ethnically diverse provinces of Son Lan and Lao Cai in north-west Vietnam, by empowering local women; promoting inclusive business partnerships; and improving sector governance and policy. The program aims to improve the socio-economic status of ethnic minority women living in north-west Vietnam through increased participation in, and incomes derived from, growing agriculture and tourism markets. The program further places strong emphasis on evidence-based participatory planning; a multi-sectoral research team, including experts in policy, agriculture and tourism value chains; ethnography; poverty and gender; and the needs of local ethnic minority communities from an inclusive market systems development lens. To holistically influence transformative change for ethnic minority women, the program will work with a range of partners across three levels: the household and community level; the market system level; and the enabling environment.
