Two Cowater projects featured at WTO Aid for Trade Global Review News

The Expert Deployment Mechanism for Trade and Development (EDM) and the Canadian Trade and Investment Facility for Development (CTIF) were featured at the Aid for Trade Global Review on 4 July 2019 at the World Trade Organisation in Geneva.

As Global Affairs Canada’s flagship initiatives on trade and development, they were presented for the first time in Geneva to the international trade community. They represent Canada’s commitment to using an inclusive approach to trade and helping their trading partners benefit from trade and investment. This approach, embedded in both initiatives, focuses on transparency, women economic empowerment, small and medium-sized enterprises and the environment.

The Expert Deployment Mechanism for Trade and Development is a seven-year demand-driven development assistance project. It is designed to contribute to poverty reduction by deploying 700 Canadian and international technical experts to assist developing countries negotiate, implement, adapt to and benefit from their trade and investment agreements with Canada.

The Canadian Trade and Investment Facility for Development is a seven-year project to support priority trade and investment-related policy reforms that are aligned with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy objectives and have a high potential to reduce poverty in developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The projects are implemented by Cowater International and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada.
