INKLUSI team undertakes joint monitoring visit to East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia
INKLUSI Program, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and managed by Cowater International, is a flagship initiative of the Australian Government in Indonesia. It promotes gender equality, the rights of persons with disabilities and marginalized groups, and advances greater social inclusion. INKLUSI partners with civil society organizations (CSOs) to increase participation and access of marginalized groups in socio-economic development processes.
Recently, a joint monitoring team visited Meorumba Village, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Representatives from the National Planning Agency, the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, and the INKLUSI Secretariat met with CSO partner Kemitraan, and its local partner, Lembaga Bumi Lestari. The joint monitoring team had the opportunity to discuss the work of local CSOs with Marapu Indigenous People (Masyarakat Adat Marapu) to improve women’s participation in village development planning forums (Musrenbang).
During the discussion with the monitoring team, a woman from Masyarakat Adat Marapu noted: “Now we have the confidence to participate in the village development process and share information about the needs of women, children, and persons with disabilities.”
Madeleine Moss, Minister Counsellor for Governance and Human Development at the Australian Embassy in Indonesia, emphasized the significance of assisting indigenous communities in obtaining their Identity Cards, which are essential for accessing basic government services.
