The Banking Regulations and Supervision Support Project was a five-year, CAD 10 million initiative undertaken with the financial support of Global Affairs Canada. Working in collaboration with the Banking Supervision Agency of the State Bank of Vietnam, this initiative provided technical assistance in three areas: (1) progress towards compliance with the prioritized components of Basel Core Principles; (2) Implementation of risk-based supervision for the banking sector; and (3) implementation of Basel II capital adequacy framework. The key achievements included strengthening the performance of the Banking Supervisory Agency in regulating, licensing and supervising banks in accordance with international standards; improved the skills of BSE staff to assess, draft and revise banking regulations and licensing; improved organizational structure for banking regulation and supervision within the State Bank of Vietnam; and developed, implemented and revised banking supervisory procedures, consultation mechanisms, tools and systems in-line with international standards as well as Basel II regulations.
