Improving Dryland Livelihoods in Djibouti and Somalia through Productivity-enhancing Technologies

The purpose of this project, implemented by Cowater International (formerly Transtec), is to improve the livelihoods of pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Somalia and Djibouti through increases in productivity resulting from the adoption of improved technologies for farming, the sustainable management of water, watersheds, rangelands and small herds. The objectives of this project are to: deliver technological packages to increase and stabilize the productivity of sorghum/maize-based rain-fed production systems and of fruits/vegetables irrigation based agriculture farming systems; deliver technological packages to increase and stabilize the productivity of rangelands and small herds; demonstrate and promote efficient watershed management technologies; and improve the capacities of national research staff to provide support services to pastoralists, agro-pastoralists and irrigation-based farmers.
